Zaya Wade had the support of her family and friends at a school event this past weekend. Dwyane Wade, Gabrielle Union, and other family friends came out to watch Zaya sing in the choir for what appeared to be a celebration for Black History Month.
Dwyane uploaded a video clip of his daughter singing and performing at the recital. “J.O.Y. ~ A Feeling Of Great Pleasure And Happiness,” the celebrity father shared with his Instagram fans. Dwyane went on to say, “That’s What Watching Zaya Sing And Dance Last Night (Saturday, February 29, 2020) Felt Like For Our Family.”

Zaya Wade has trailblazed her path these past few months. The tween, who was born a boy, embraced her identity as a girl. Dwyane Wade discussed how Zaya came out to him and Gabrielle Union during a recent interview with Ellen DeGeneres.
“Zion, born as a boy, came home and said, ‘Hey, so I want to talk to you guys. I think going forth, I’m ready to live my truth. And I want to be referenced as ‘she’ and ‘her.’ I would love [it] if you guys would call me Zaya,” the celebrity father said.
Many have celebrated Zaya Wade for living in her truth. Some, however, criticize Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union for failing to keep Zaya on a more traditional path regarding sexuality. Dwyane, however, has made it abundantly clear that the decision for Zaya to embrace her life as a girl is her own.
“She is our leader,” Wade revealed during his most recent visit to Good Morning America. “[She has] known it for nine years since she was 3 years old,” he added. “It was a process for us to sit down with our daughter and find out who she is and what she likes and not put something on her — we decided to listen to her and she’s leading us on this journey,” Wade concluded.
Zaya Wade is Dwyane Wade’s child with his first wife, Siohvaughn Funches. The celebrity father has four kids in all. Stay tuned for more blended family news!
