Dwyane Wade is opening up about his brief split with Gabrielle Union. The celebrity father shares the anxiety that he suffered before coming clean about his youngest son with his then-girlfriend in his forthcoming ESPN documentary, D. Wade: Life Unexpected.

“I had a child with someone else and I had to tell her,” Dwyane says in the special. “[The] hardest thing I’ve ever had to do is man up and tell Gabrielle Union that I’ve had a child with somebody else,” the celebrity father adds. “I couldn’t sleep. I wasn’t eating.”
News of Dwyane Wade’s “break baby” spread like wildfire in 2013. Dwyane openly admitted that he and Gabrielle were separated at the time that he pursued a romance with Basketball Wives star Aja Metoyer.
“I had a time, a part in our break, in our pain and our hurt, a blessing came out of it in my life,” Dwyane said in a public statement on the matter. “Having a son that was born healthy,” the celebrity father confirmed.
Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union announced their engagement shortly after the news of him fathering a son outside of their relationship spread. Still, Dwyane admits that telling his soon-to-be wife the truth was absolutely heart-wrenching.
“When you hold something in that you know is going to come out and you have this information and you know it’s gonna f— somebody’s life up, that you care about, that you love, if it don’t hurt you, then you’re not human,” Wade says in his documentary.
