AM: How do you prepare for auditions?
JY: Preparing for auditions is important to me and like a regular routine. I memorize my lines so that way when I walk into the room I’m totally off book. Then, I work on matching acting with the words. If you have your lines memorized, it’s much easier to focus on the acting and relating to the character if you’re not trying to think about what the line is. And lastly, I walk into the audition room, happy, confident and with energy. It’s important to remember that you have just as much reason to be there as anyone else. You are just as good so go in, be you and give it your best!
AM: How do you handle rejections?
JY: There is lots of rejection in this industry, I just see it as if this one wasn’t for you, that’s fine maybe the next one will be. You can’t dwell on what wasn’t for you because then you may miss out on or limit the things that are meant for you. You’ve got to be humble and just do your best! Sometimes there’s nothing you could have even done differently, you may not get the job just because your too tall or too young, so you can’t let it get to you.
AM: Who is your favorite character that you have portrayed and why?
JY: My favorite character that I have portrayed is definitely Dion in Raising Dion because he has super powers! Also, I felt playing Dion was really a challenge because he was such an active and energetic kid and dealing with some pretty heavy and serious issues and situations. You have the lead role on the Netflix hit show Raising Dion.
