The Dolby Theatre in Hollywood was the place to be on Tuesday night. Stars came from near and far to celebrate the premiere of Disney’s The Lion King.
Jamie Foxx brought his youngest daughter, Annalise Bishop, and two of her friends to the screening. Destiny’s Child was definitely in the house as Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams came out to support their former band member, Beyonce.
Kelly brought her son, Titan Witherspoon, to the premiere. The celebrity mom and her little one smiled for the cameras. Titan even showed the peace sign during the segment, which was nothing short of cute. Lance Gross and his daughter, Berkeley Gross, were also in attendance at The Lion King premiere in Hollywood. The celebrity father and his daughter honored African culture with their attire.
The Lion King takes viewers on a trip through Africa through the gaze of the animal kingdom. Mufasa is adamant about teaching his son, Simba, the importance of the Circle of Life. Respect keeps the circle strong and a king must, therefore, work to maintain harmony among all creatures. The lessons that Mufasa give are timeless. Simba, however, is only concerned with asserting his power as king. Tragedy has a way of being an excellent teacher and, as Simba learns, everyone must take their rightful place in the Circle of Life.
Jon Favreau was going for both nostalgia and something different when directing the 2019 remake of The Lion King. “I don’t think anybody wants to see another animated Lion King because [the original] still holds up really, really well,” Favreau said during a recent interview with Gizmodo. “If we do our jobs well, people are gonna connect with this,” he added. “And I can’t express enough as a filmmaker, how grateful I am for that.”
The Lion King – starring Beyonce, Seth Rogen, Donald Glover, James Earl Jones, JD McCrary, and more – comes to theaters on July 19, 2019.
