Shaq’s ex, Shaunie O’Neal, hosted a Love Event to honor the family friends who stuck by her and Shareef O’Neal’s side during his open heart surgery. The celebrity mom had her team of specialists to help her pull off the gathering.
“I threw The Love Event to love on all of our family and friends who cared for and showered our family during @shareefoneal surgery,” Shaunie shared with her Instagram fans on Wednesday (June 19). “Thank you to my amazing team @elmnt13 for always bringing my vision to life,” the celebrity mom exclaimed.
Shareef O’Neal had a major health scare a few months back after doctors revealed an irregularity with his heart. “During a routine checkup with Shareef getting cleared to play basketball, they discovered that he had a right anomalous coronary artery,” Shaunie shared during a confession session in the new season of Basketball Wives. “He was born with it,” the celebrity mom added. “He literally could have died from it.”
Shaunie went on to explain how she felt upon hearing the disturbing news about her son’s health. “They let us know that Shareef needed open heart surgery. I felt my heart break.”
Shaunie, Shaq and all other members of the O’Neal family traveled with Shareef for his medical procedure. The young athlete came out with flying colors and is now able to gradually return to the sport that he loves.

“Your son, Shareef, looks good,” one Instagram fan said after seeing a picture of Shaunie and Shareef together. “[It is] hard to believe he had open heart surgery,” the supporter added. “God bless him, and your other children.”
