Big changes are coming for Yandy Smith and her family in 2019. The Love & Hip Hop: New York tells The Breakfast Club that her husband is scheduled for release from prison and things in the foster parent are moving along steadily.
“He’ll be home next year,” Yandy says of Mendeecees prison release. “Collectively [he’s been away] almost five years…It’s a drop in the bucket to a lifetime you have to spend together,” the star mom added.
Mendeecees surrendered to the authorities in 2016 after being found guilty of drug trafficking in his earlier years. The celebrity father owned full responsibility for his actions and even left video messages for his kids to watch in his absence. Mendeecees was sentenced to eight years in prison but, as it seems, may be reunited with his family sooner rather than later.
Perhaps Mendeecees will be a part of Yandy Smith’s adoption process that is currently underway. The celebrity mom moved to become a guardian to one of her mentorees, Infinity Gilyard, several months back. Many people praised Yandy for going above and beyond to help the next generation. A few critics, however, accused the Reality TV star of taking on the role of foster parent for publicity.
“That hurts me to my core [when people said this was a publicity stunt],” Smith reveals. “My children are babies,” she continues. “This isn’t something that stops when the cameras stop. At 5 AM, I take her to school. I have ACS [Administration for Children’s Services] on my back. Just thinking about it makes me emotional. She has to see these comments, and I never want her to feel like I’m doing this because of a storyline.”
