BARACK OBAMA: ‘I DROPPED OFF MALIA AT COLLEGE … IT WAS A LITTLE BIT LIKE OPEN-HEART SURGERY’

How was sending Malia Obama off to begin her collegiate career at Harvard University? Pretty rough for former president Barack Obama. The previous commander-in-chief shared his experience of sending his eldest daughter off to university during a recent event hosted by the Beau Biden Foundation.

“For those of us who have daughters, it just happens fast,” Obama shared. “I dropped off Malia at college, and I was saying to Joe and Jill [Biden] that it was a little bit like open-heart surgery,” the former president shared.

“I was proud that I did not cry in front of her,” Obama said. “But on the way back, the Secret Service was off, looking straight ahead, pretending they weren’t hearing me as I sniffled and blew my nose. It was rough.”

Malia was spotted moving into her dormitory room at Harvard University in August. Both of her parents were present to help her get settled.

Although his life as president was pretty intense, Obama let little keep him away from quality time spent with the family. “My staff knows that it pretty much takes a national emergency to keep me away from that dinner table,” the then-president shared in 2015. Obama also revealed that he and Michelle were “dreading that empty seat at the table when Malia goes off to school next fall.”

Barack and Michelle Obama are the proud parents of two daughters. Malia is the oldest of the two. Her younger sister, Sasha, is en route to completing her high school years. We wonder if Sasha will attend Harvard as well. No pressure; just a thought.
