Krista Campbell, daughter of Warryn and Erica Campbell, is the new Little Miss African American. The tween was named as the winner of the 24th annual Little Miss African American Scholarship Pageant (LMAA) held at the Barnsdall Gallery Theatre in Los Angeles a few weeks ago.

“The Little Miss African American Pageant is first and foremost an educational program cleverly disguised in a pageant format whose mission is dedicated to the intellectual success of your African American girls,” the program’s creator Lisa Ruffin told LA Sentinel.

“Within each girl, is the promise of unlimited possibilities, and the pageant is a vehicle for bringing that potential to the forefront,” Ruffin added. “Dozens of girls have participated in this program, hundreds of scholarships have been awarded, and lasting memories have been created for these young academic and intellectual princesses.”

Penny Johnson Jerald of The Orville and James Pickens Jr. of ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy were two of many celebrities who donated their time to the event. Claudia Jordan and Sheree Fletcher served as hosts of the ceremony.
