Skai Jackson is perhaps one of the most stylishly recognized faces on the Disney channel today. Having been in the business since she was a baby, Jackson has had to manage being a child, while at the same time, balancing being a working professional in the spotlight. By refusing to get caught up in the pitfalls of fame and fortune, Jackson has positioned herself as a champion for the masses of her generation, speaking out on all issues, making sure that her voice is heard.
“It’s kind of surreal that I have so many kids looking up to me,” Jackson told NYMag.com in a recent interview/photo session.
Jackson’s career has quickly progressed from walking in fashion shows during NYFW to having a starring role in the spinoff series Bunk’d, where she continues to portray Zuri Ross. Although she is an extremely talented actress, it is Jackson’s activism and straight-forward manner that have gained her a mass following on various social media outlets. Whether it is politics, in defense of others, culture, or current events, Jackson does not bite her tongue.
“Because I’m so young, it’s really important to me to speak my mind. A lot of people get scared to talk about real issues that are happening right now. And because I do, I get so many people sending me messages like. ‘Wow you really helped me, thank you so much, thank you for standing up to internet bullying. That means a lot to me.'”
In addition to her acting, Jackson has seemingly begun a return to her first love-fashion! Everywhere she goes, the teen definitely slays the look. Whether she is clad in Marc Jacobs, Alice + Olivia, or Top Shop, she is flawless.
“I’m trying to step up my fashion game now that I’m older and it’s the perfect time for me to experiment with different designers and find what I like,” she told the magazine. “Hopefully in the next year or two I’ll be designing or have a collaboration with someone.”
