It’s hard to believe that Johnny Depp’s interpretation of Jack Sparrow, who is the flagship character of the franchise, nearly got him fired during the budding years of the Pirates Of The Caribbean. “They wanted to fire me,” Depp revealed during an interview in 2015. “I remember it trickled back to me that [former Disney CEO] Michael Eisner went on some sort of vent about how, ‘G*dd*mmit, Johnny Depp’s ruining the film. What is it? What is that thing? Is it drunk? Is it gay?’ So I fully expected to be fired.”
It’s a good thing that Eisner went against his better judgment as Depp’s misunderstood character has helped the Pirates Of The Caribbean earn more than $1 million in box office sales alone over the years. The empire also has merchandise sold worldwide in Disney stores and online.
