No everyone can say that they are “co-founder” of a non-profit organization at the age of 12; however, eighth-grade student Ian Michael Brock can.
Co-founder of Beyond The Cookie, a non-profit cookie sales organization which donates proceeds to support computer science education in his neighborhood, Brock has already positioned himself as a up-and-comer in the tech word, demonstrating the importance of STEM education in the classroom, specifically in the realm of coding.
“[I] like being able to program something from scratch. I like video games, but I want to create my own. [Coding enables you to] get away and use your mind and imagination…whether it’s a game, a web page or a mini-movie you create,” he tells Forbes.
In order to spread his mission Beyond The Cookie, Brock has not only embraced the title of entrepreneur but he has also become a budding author as well. Working on his first book, Dream Hustle Code, which he plans on publishing by June 2018, right in time for his middle school graduation.
This rising star, a native of Chicago, understands that ‘murder and violence’ are things that surround he and his friends on a daily basis, but he doesn’t let the statistics cloud his mission and continually promotes the fact that “coding is a ticket out of poverty-of mind and in reality”, the young rising star is promoting a future of possibilities for all inner-city children that will unquestionably transform everyone’s reality into a tangible dream.
Of course, with his sights set on attending Harvard one day, Brock is already planning his second book, with that track in mind, to focus on how to help youth entrepreneurs obtain scholarships in order to afford an education at prestigious universities such as Harvard. It is without a doubt that we will be seeing more and more of this exciting young an and his mission. From entrepreneur to author to possibly becoming a major Tech giant in Silicone Valley one day in the near future, Ian Michael Brock, definitely is the total package.
