PLANNING A “STAYCATION”? HERE ARE SOME TIPS TO HELP

Spring is always a time for growth, renewal and relaxation; however, when planning a spring break vacation, there is nothing relaxing or renewing about travel delays, grumpy kids of all ages, overpriced gas, hotels, and food.

So, this year, instead of hitting the road, why not plan a “staycation”? At home vacations can help cut costs while increasing fun. Here’s a few ideas on how to help make your “staycation” the best vacation ever!

  1. Get out and take a hike. Take a moment to commune with nature and get out and about. Visit a state park, go camping, fishing, swimming, horseback riding, follow nature trails, the list goes on. Connect with the nature that during any other time of the year, you tend to simply whiz by.
  2. Museum hop. When was the last time you took in an art show at your local museum or took your kids to the local children’s museum to toss around the dirt in the dinosaur pit exhibit? Well, there’s no time better to museum hop while on your “staycation”. Spend the day looking at art, then picnic and head to the children’s or your local science museums. It can be fun taking a journey through the ages and submerging yourself in a full day of culture and art. Don’t forget to stop by the gift store, every vacation needs a souvenir.
  3. Explore your city. Pretend to be a tourist in your own city. Pull up your local tourist and visitors bureau “things-to-do” list, and check them off. It is almost guaranteed that you will find a host of new and exciting things to do without leaving your own zip code.
  4. Plan a movie-a-thon. With everyone’s busy schedules, making it to the movie theater is probably last on the list. Check out OnDemand, Netflix, Hulu, etc. and binge watch all of those favorites that have been piling up on your “must see” list. Prepare a smorgasbord of movie theater snacks and enjoy. You may realize that this “staycation” tip just may turn into a family night regular event.

Remember, whatever you do during your “staycation,” make sure that it is fun. You are relaxed, and when the week is over you feel renewed!
