They have five days to show their father that they can be mature and civilized during the holidays. Unfortunately, these adult kids just cannot bring themselves to behave. Gabrielle Union, Nicole Ari Parker, Danny Glover, and Mo’Nique make up the all-star cast of Almost Christmas that is hilarious from beginning to end.
This year will be the firs that the family celebrates Christmas without the matriarch of the family. Walter (Danny Glover) invites his kids and kinfolks over for week-long holiday bonding despite the many hangups that they have with each other. Although he holds on to the hope that his children – Rachel, Evan, Christian, and Cheryl – will keep the arguing to a minimum, Walter is met with the stark reality of chaos the moment that all of his children get together in the same room.
The good news is that Aunt May (Mo’Nique) is here to help. The no-nonsense sister of Walter’s deceased wife gives a firm call for unity and threatens to reach out and touch those who fail to understand the importance of family during the holidays.
It’s hard to watch Almost Christmas without laughing out loud because of the film’s rawness. “If you feel bad about your family, if you think your family is crazy, wait until you see this one,” says producer Will Packer. “If this family can survive, yours has a chance,” he adds.
Keri Hilson also comments. “Knowing that Will Packer and David Talbert were combining forces was it for me,” she says of her decision to take on a role in the film. “There’s always a message, always a redeeming factor to all the fun. Those are the kind of projects I want to be a part of.”
