A few months ago, The Mouse House’s CEO Bob Iger announced that Moana 2 is on the way, sharing a :17 sec first look announcement trailer to get us all excited about the upcoming new movie. Well, Disney keeps reeling us in as they just shared a brand new teaser trailer that gives us just a little bit more of what we can look forward to seeing in theaters!
When Iger shared the exiting news about the upcoming sequel, he also said in a CNBC interview that, “Moana remains an incredibly popular franchise. And we can’t wait to give you more of Moana and Maui when Moana 2 comes to theaters this November.”
Moana, became one of Disney’s top-grossing animated movies of all time, racking up over $687M at the box office in 2016, so of course, expectations are unquestionably high for the next installment of Moana and Maui adventures.
So, just what can fans of the two-time Oscar-nominated animated original feature film expect from this second installment?
According to JustJaredJr.com, in the upcoming movie, Moana and Maui reunite three years later for an expansive new voyage alongside a crew of unlikely seafarers. After receiving an unexpected call from her wayfinding ancestors, Moana must journey to the far seas of Oceania and into dangerous, long-lost waters for an adventure unlike anything she’s ever faced.
Dave Derrick Jr. will sit at the helm of the upcoming movie as director. Moana 2 will showcase music from Grammy award winners Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear, Grammy nominee Opetaia Foa’i, and three-time Grammy winner Mark Mancina.
Even though there was some doubt as to whether Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson would reprise his role as Maui, it has been confirmed that he will indeed rejoin the cast alongside, Auli’i Cravalho, who will, once again, portray Moana.
Make sure to set your reminders as Moana 2 will hit theaters right in time for the Thanksgiving holiday on November 27!
