Matt Barnes, Laura’s brother-in-law, founded the Athletes vs. Cancer non-profit organization in 2008, after his mother passed away suddenly as the result of having cancer. Ann Barnes was diagnosed with four types of cancer in the latter part of 2007, and died twenty-six days after receiving her prognosis from the doctor. While the Barnes family knew that Ann’s cancerous diagnosis could lead to death neither they nor the doctor were expecting her to pass away so quickly. As a result of the devastation that Matt and his family experienced as the result of Ann’s sudden death, the NBA star, along with his wife and sister, decided to found the Athletes vs. Cancer charity. The organization hosts awareness events every year that encourage the general public to be proactive in their fight against cancer.

Laura Govan and her little ones joined forces with Matt and his charity this past Saturday to further prompt the community to get tested often. The reality star has four kids with fiance Gilbert Arenas. Learn more about the Athletes vs. Cancer non-profit organization here.
