Youtube sensation Gabi Wilson is working on her debut album. The 16-year-old singer/songwriter has drafted Da Internz for her upcoming album, and there are also some other big name producers attached.
“A woman who produced for Michael Jackson worked with Gabi a few days and said she’s a talent that comes along maybe once every 20 years,” boasted the young girl’s father Kenny Wilson, who is a musician himself. He made a point to state that Gabi is not a one-hit wonder, but a seasoned talent who has been passionate about music for a long time. “They’re looking at her as a ‘career artist.’ Some artists, they put out a record and, if it doesn’t hit, they move onto the next artist,” he added. “They look at Gabi like Alicia Keys or like Beyoncé. They want her to do this until she’s as old as Aretha Franklin.”
It’s clear that a lot of time and careful effort is being put into the newcomer’s album. As far back as last year, Gabi had said “We’re pretty much just focusing on finishing the album. That’s everything now. I think starting last December is when we really found the sound and we’re working from that.”
Wilson reportedly signed a $1 million deal with Sony and MBK Entertainmen in 2011. No doubt, Gabi is one steadily rising star we can expect to see, and hear, a lot of.
