Pharrell Williams is loving his life as a songwriter and producer but life wasn’t always so sweet for the ‘Happy’ singer. Williams tells media that his son helped transform his career into an enjoyable experience that promotes the pertinence of women.
“It was a dreadful experience,” says Pharrell of his debut album In My Mind. The artist released the album in 2006, and found the music to be a bit boring and offensive to women. “It was just too much,” explains the star. “I wasn’t thinking about life in the right way. I thought my days as an artist were over. I didn’t like what I was saying. I wasn’t comfortable with that.”
Just when he thought his days as an artist were over, Rocket was born. “[I’m a] father now and my life has changed,” says Pharrell. “I love women and often admire their eyes, lips and other features of their bodies in a sometimes suggestive way. But I respect and hold what would be called ‘a feminist view’ too.” Williams adds, “Men just would not be here without women. I needed to say that on the album.”
Rocket is Pharrell’s son with wife Helen Lasichanh. The couple wed last year.
