Parenting is a two way street for Solange Knowles. The R&B singer tells Essence magazine that her 9-year-old son Julez looks to her for direction as she depends on him for inspiration.
“One of the things that I think that stands out the most is just the fearlessness that I see everyday in him and that comes across in me and my work,” says Knowles. “Seeing that just conviction and honestly with everything he does, absolutely has made me a better person.”
The R&B artist goes on to talk about the joys of motherhood explaining to Essence, “Motherhood is such an evolving journey. You find that the older your children get, and the more that they become who they are, you really have to kind of shape and mold your morals and values around that personality.”
In allowing her son to mold and shape her, Solange has learned to further embrace her creativity that is often celebrated by fans and media outlets. “We all have the option of how we want to express ourselves through our life, hair, style or whatever we decide. We shouldn’t be pigeonholed into any one category.”
