Diggy Simmons,15, is ecstatic about his new record deal. It’s almost surreal,” he tells the Daily News.
“I worked for it all. My dad didn’t shop me around at a label or anything.”
“I definitely want to go my own route and make my own name,” he added.
Diggy’s dad, the legendary Rev. Run Simmons, is a proud father. “I thought he needed help. He just ran off and started doing it himself,” Run said.
“All I did was watch it happen. … He created a hype on the Internet on his own. It’s really hard to believe, but it’s the truth.”
Diggy says the internet, his blog, and social networking tools helped him to ink his record deal.
“The Internet is a great tool to use,” said the teenager.
Diggy’s first mixtape,”The First Flight,” was downloaded by more than 100,000 people.
“After the mixtape dropped, it was like a lot of labels were just coming in and wanted to be involved,” Diggy said.
