Jalen Brunson says his 2-year-old daughter, Jordyn, has him wrapped around her finger.
During an October 20 appearance on Craig Melvin’s Glass Half Full podcast, the Knicks star explained why it’s hard to be firm with his toddler.
“She has me wrapped, and she’s running the house,” he said. “I try to be that voice of reason.”
“And she looks at you and gives you kind of the side eye or the smile, you can’t help but laugh,” he continued. “She can do whatever she wants for now.”
Melvin predicted that would last forever, prompting Brunson to concede, “She’ll definitely have a little leeway.”
When asked whether he could imagine Jordyn playing basketball someday, Brunson answered, “I 100% see it.”
Whatever she decides to do, though, Brunson believes she’ll find her way.
“I just know that whatever she does, she’s gonna put her mind to it and she’s gonna, she’s gonna find a way to succeed,” he said.
Brunson shares Jordyn with his wife, Ali. As for whether they plan to have another child, he said, “I thought about it. That’s all I’ve done is thought about it.”
“I guess that’s the conversation that needs to be had,” he added. “Cross that bridge when we get to it.”
Elsewhere in the conversation, Brunson spoke about his upcoming children’s book, Jalen Plays It All.
The story follows a young Jalen as he tries sports such as swimming, football, baseball and tennis. When Melvin asked what he hopes children take away from the book, Brunson explained:
“Most importantly, that you don’t have to have it all figured out at such a young age. Your end goal can always change.”
He also offered advice for young readers eager to try something new.
“It’s important to kind of finish what you start,” Brunson said. After reaching that point, “you can reassess to figure out if you want to continue or you want to move on to something else.”
Jalen Plays It All, illustrated by Neely Daggett, will be released on November 24 through Feiwel & Friends.
