Beyoncé had her daughters, Blue Ivy and Rumi Carter, by her side on Tuesday, October 13, as she celebrated the grand opening of the Knowles-Rowland House in Houston, Texas.
Her mother, Tina Knowles, and longtime friend Kelly Rowland joined them at St. John’s Downtown Church, where the new housing development is located.
During the ceremony, Tina recalled bringing Beyoncé, Kelly and her younger daughter, Solange, to volunteer at St. John’s when they were children.
“Because of that, I have these beautiful young women that have hearts and empathy,” Tina shared. “And they give, and they work, and they do things to give back to the community. And I have this place to thank for that.”
Beyoncé also grew emotional while speaking about the church where she was baptized.
“It’s so many memories here, and I want to thank Juanita and Rudy because your prayers have held us up, and this church is our foundation,” she said.
After the speeches, Blue Ivy, 14, and Rumi, 9, joined their family onstage for the ribbon-cutting. Standing in front of her mom, Rumi helped cut the ribbon to officially open the facility.
The development will provide 31 permanent supportive apartments for Houston residents who have experienced chronic homelessness. Residents will have access to mental health counseling, substance use treatment, life skills training and other services.
The project builds on decades of community work by Beyoncé and Kelly. In 1999, proceeds from Destiny’s Child’s first single helped fund the original Knowles-Rowland Center for Youth at St. John’s.
The building served as a gymnasium and community gathering space until it suffered extensive fire damage in 2021. It has since been converted into housing.
Tuesday’s event gave fans another look at Blue Ivy and Rumi alongside their mother. Both girls joined Beyoncé onstage for part of her 2025 Cowboy Carter tour. Blue Ivy showed off her dance skills throughout the shows, while Rumi made her concert debut during her mother’s performance of “Protector.”
In February 2026, the sisters also attended Super Bowl LX with their father, Jay-Z.
Beyoncé and her husband, Jay-Z, are also parents to Rumi’s twin brother, Sir Carter.
