The upcoming new Disney+ series, The Crossover, is one that we have all been waiting for. To give us a peek at what to expect, Disney+ has dropped a new official trailer for the series. This just makes us wish April was already here even more!
According to Deadline, here is a complete synopsis of what to expect.
The Crossover is based on the best-selling novel by Kwame Alexander. The Crossover introduces teen brothers Josh and Jordan Bell, widely considered basketball phenoms. Through his lyrical poetry, an adult version of Josh, aka Filthy McNasty, narrates the story of he and his brother’s coming of age, on and off the court, as their former professional basketball player father adjusts to life after basketball, and their mother finally pursues lifelong dreams of her own.
The series will star Jalyn Hall as Josh Bell/”Filthy”. Amir O’Neil will star opposite Hall as his brother Jordan. Additional actors joining Hall and Bell on-screen for this project include: Daveed Diggs (adult “Filthy”), Derek Luke (Chuck Bell), Sabrina Revelle (Crystal Bell), Deja Monique Cruz (Maya), Trevor Raine Bush (Vondie), and Skyla I’Lece (Alexis). Phylicia Rashad will guest star as the boys’ grandmother and Chuck’s mother.
Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television, shared in a statement when news of the new series was released back in 2022 that, “We’re honored to bring Kwame Alexander’s poignant, emotional and poetic story to our Disney+ audience in partnership with this outstanding group of creative talent.”
The basketball series will have one of the GOAT’s at the helm, helping to ensure the authenticity of the project. If you didn’t know, 38-year-old basketball star Lebron James has his own production company, the SpringHill Company and will executive produce the project.
Are you as excited as we are? Well, if you are, make sure to tune-into Disney+ on April 5th to catch the premiere!
