Michelle Obama is reading to kids via YouTube! The former First Lady recently partnered with Penguin Young Readers, PBS, and Random House Children’s Books to bring ‘Mondays With Michelle Obama’ to children across the Internet.
I can't wait to share the magic of storytelling with kids everywhere by reading a beloved children's book every Monday with @PBSKIDS and @Penguinrandom.
I hope you’ll tune in today at 12PM ET as I read "The Gruffalo" on @PBSKIDS's YouTube channel and Facebook page! pic.twitter.com/6sDVovw42X

The first storytime segment took place this past Monday (April 20) and featured The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson and Alex Axel Scheffler. The story is one of a mouse whose imagination becomes a reality when walking through the forest.
As one who is small in stature, the mouse knows that he does not stand a chance in the wild without creating a monster to be his friend. The mouse invents what he calls “The Gruffalo” who is big and mean. He never expects the Gruffalo to be an actual creature.
Donaldson and Scheffler’s tale is one of fantasy, acceptance, and ultimately friendship. All three of these factors are significant for education and society at large. Michelle Obama shares why she decided to collaborate with PBS and its partners to bring Monday storytime to kids.
“As a little kid, I loved to read aloud,” the former First Lady says. “And when I became a parent, I found such joy in sharing the magic of storytelling with my own children—and then later, as First Lady, with kids everywhere. At this time when so many families are under so much stress, I’m excited to give kids a chance to practice their reading and hear some wonderful stories (and to give parents and caretakers a much-needed break).”
