Life is all about the magic. Alicia Keys has her kids to thank for such a revelation. The Grammy Award-winning recording artist revealed how motherhood has changed her outlook on life during her recent segment on Red Table Talk.

“It’s always been so easy for us,” Alicia said of her marriage to producer Swizz Beatz. The couple tied the knot in 2010 and have two kids, Egypt and Genesis, together. “My husband is such a free spirit,” the celebrity mom continued.

“Swizz is like in the sky. The way he thinks, he’s just in the sky and everything’s up there. We get along really well because we balance each other. He helps me dream. I never dreamed how I did before I met him. I’ve even been jealous of him before like, ‘You got bigger dreams than me.'”

Alicia Keys began her career as a professional singer at the age of 14. “When everything exploded, I was 18,” Keys revealed. “I was a baby [and] I didn’t know what I was doing,” the award-winning artist admitted. “[The label] had such strong ideas of what they wanted for me. There was a certain sense of a desire for me to be inaccessible.”

It would take several years for Alicia to determine what she wanted in life and tap into her inner power. “I felt so dependent,” Keys said of individuals who held significant influence over her life during her early years in the music industry. “I thought that without them I wouldn’t be me,” she continued. “People definitely assist you in your journey, for sure. But they don’t make you. Nobody makes you. I make me.”

Alicia’s kids have definitely helped along the way. “They’ve taught me to appreciate the vibe, appreciate the magic and to know when it’s not there.”
