DWYANE WADE REFERS TO SON ZION AS A ‘GIRL’ AND FANS REACT

"No Harm In That"

Dwyane Wade is a proud and supportive father. The former NBA player took to Instagram on Monday to share a precious photo of his son, Zion Wade, along with his wife Gabrielle Union and daughter Kaavia Wade. “My girls,” the celebrity father captioned of the Instagram story post.

Some fans appreciated Dwyane Wade’s reference to Zion as a girl. Others, however, took issue with the reference. “He’s calling him a girl,” one critic said of the caption. “[Zion is] like 11-years-old,” the commenter noted. Another fan was more neutral about the caption. “I think he’s just accepting/ allowing his child to be gender fluid and is calling the child by the pronouns she’s most comfortable with,” the social media follower reasoned. “No harm in that.”

It was just a few months ago that Zion Wade had the support of his family at the Miami Gay PRIDE parade. Dwyane and Gabrielle took several pictures with Zion to capture the essence of the day. Some criticized Dwyane for supporting his son at the Miami PRIDE parade. The celebrity father, however, shut the mouths of the naysayers by telling the press that his job as a father is to love his children unconditionally.

“I don’t really talk about it much because it’s Zion’s story to tell,” Dwyane shared during an interview with Variety. “I think as a family, we should support each other,” he added. “That’s our job.”

“And my job as a father is to facilitate their lives and to support them and be behind them in whatever they want to do. So the same effort that I’m going to put into Zaire Wade wanting to be a basketball player, [making sure] he has the right trainers, eats right and has the right time with me on the basketball floor, is the same time I give Zion with the things he wants to do.”

While some critics find fault in Dwyane’s parenting style, many appreciate the celebrity father’s rearing practices. “Seeing @DwyanrWade be so openly proud and supportive of his son and his sexuality , is literally an amazing thing to see,” one fan wrote online after seeing Dwyane’s Instagram story in which he referenced Zion as a girl. “Here he is a very well known black male athlete with an openly gay black son,” the admirer continued. “Be supportive of your kids always,” the fan concluded.
