Garcelle Beauvais and her sons, Jaid and Jax, were definitely dressed to impress at the Children’s Defense Fund California’s 28th Annual Beat The Odds Awards this past Wednesday (December 6). The celebrity mom and her kids were all about formal attire at the event, which was held at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles, California.
This year’s Beat The Odds Awards honored five local high school students who have excelled in both academics and community service. Jurnee Smollett-Bell and Josiah Bell were two among many to serve as chairpersons for the event.
The Children’s Defense Fund (CDF) has consistently worked to ensure that underserved children are given equality so that the field is leveled when it comes to opportunities in education and the workforce. The California chapter of the organization was founded in 1998 with the hope that impoverished children living in the state would have the chance to break the cycle of poverty. To date, CDF-CA has offices in Long Beach, Oakland, and Los Angeles. The organization continues to grow by leaps and bounds throughout the nation.
The 28th Annual Beat The Odds Awards was one of a couple charity events that Garcelle Beauvais attended this week. The celebrity mom was also present at the Dress For Success event, which kicked things off with a shopping spree for the greater cause of helping those in need.

The central goal of Dress For Success is to empower women to work towards financial independence. It is quite astonishing that, even in a country such as the United States, women are still at an economic disadvantage when compared to their male counterparts. Much of the divide comes from the wage gap in which women still earn about 20 cents less than men in the workforce all while completing the same tasks. Another source of economic dependence is due to traditional ideologies that still place women as subject to men despite research showing that women are waiting longer to marry, if they marry at all, and, thus, typically serve as the head of their households.
Perhaps Garcelle Beauvais and Dress For Success can continue to shed light on the inequalities between men and women in economics. Stay tuned for more celebrity charity news!
