After her picture went viral at Howard University’s homecoming, Plymouth State University Sophomore, South Sudanese student Anok Yai, was scouted and signed, landing the career of her dreams, proving once again that, #blackgirlsrock.
Spotted by photographer Steven Hall, he snapped a picture of Yai and posted it to Instagram and immediately it went viral, garnishing over 13,000 likes; however, this was just the beginning for Yai.
“My phone just started vibrating rapidly for a long, long time,” Yai told The Boston Globe in an interview. “At first, I honestly thought someone made a meme of me or something.” But, to her surprise it wasn’t a meme, it was several modeling agencies including Next Models, with whom she signed, knocking at her door.
The biochemistry major plans on pursuing modeling part-tie while continuing with her studies. However, she does admit that, “it was a dream that I always wanted, but I wasn’t sure if it was going to happen.” Beauty & Brains-we can’t wait to see more for Yai.
