Cue the tears and get your box of tissue. These kids from Baltimore are the talk of the Internet for their rendition of “Rise Up” by Andra Day.
The video clip of the children rehearsing was uploaded to YouTube a few weeks ago. In the segment, we see a group of young children who are every bit serious about their craft to the extent of rendering a powerful performance that makes the listener appreciate every lyric of the song. The kids get their inspiration for a powerful delivery from their teacher who guides them through the song by encouraging them to sing with feeling.
More than 21 million YouTube subscribers watched and gave the video a thumbs up. Many said they were brought to tears by the kids’ performance.
Andra Day was also moved by how the young choir brought her song to life. In fact, the recording artist created a video message just for the kids. “I just wanted to send a very special shout out and thank you to the Baltimore kids choir and to the teachers,” Andra said.
“Your video was so powerful and moved me so deeply, and is moving the entire nation right now. Thank you so much for your gifts, for your passion, for your honesty. We appreciate you so much. We love you. If you have any goals or dreams of being in music, please continue to pursue them. We love you so much. God bless you.”
Kenyetta Hardison, the choir’s director, commented on the outpouring of love and support she and the kids have received. “It’s just been amazing, all the heartwarming messages,” she said. “I’ve been receiving messages from London, from Las Vegas, Puerto Rico, Texas, France, it’s just all over.” We love it!
