You may not yet have had the pleasure of seeing Alexandre Rockwell’s 2013 indie film, Little Feet. If this is the case, you’re missing out.
The 62-minute film was screened at TIFF 2013 and is now available through Vimeo. It features the director’s children, whom he shares with his wife Karyn Parsons, who portrayed Hilary Banks on the ’90s sitcom, The Fresh Prince of Bel Air. The film is a solemn tale of children navigating a world beyond their comprehension. Having lost their mother and left to be raised by their deadbeat father, the story follows a set of siblings longing for escapism. In a whimsical narrative, the kids team up with an adventurous neighbourhood boy and set off on a journey to set their goldfish free into the ocean. The black and white film is touching and simple, artistically designed as a portrait of youth.
Karyn Parsons posted proudly, “Congrats to my hub, Alex, & my Lana & Nico, 4 being invited to TIFF w/their, “Little Feet”!!!”
Since the finale of Fresh Prince, Karyn has been keeping herself busy with projects that promote cultural awareness and family life. She has even posed for a family portrait with her daughter holding up a sign that reads “Society Evolves”. It is a nod to her interracial marriage and mixed race children.
The actress seems very dedicated to her new work. She began an organization, Sweet Blackberry, which produces animated shorts for children that feature prominent stories within the black community. Her hope with the project is to inspire more cultural awareness than the educational system and limited canon currently allows for. Tatiana Ali, another former Fresh Prince star, is also on board with the project, and they are always accepting donations. Visit the site for more information.
Karyn also starred as the host for three seasons of Mommy in Chief, a web-series that featured sit-downs with mothers to gab all things modern-mommy.
She and Alex wed in 2003 and have two children Lana (born 2003), and Rico (born 2007).
