Jayson Tatum’s son, Deuce, recently got a quick lesson in interviewing from his famous dad.
In a video shared by the NBA, the 8-year-old approached Tatum with a microphone and prepared to ask him a question. Before Deuce could get started, the Boston Celtics star had a few pointers.
“It’s gotta be a good question,” Tatum told him. “You gotta be serious.”
Tatum then reminded his son that an interview starts with an introduction.
“What’s your name?” he asked. “You gotta tell them your name. Look to the camera.”
Dad took over the questioning for a minute from there. Deuce shared that he is 8 years old and headed into the third grade. When Tatum asked who he was with, his son answered, “My daddy.” Asked what his dad does for a living, Deuce kept it simple: “Play basketball for the Celtics.”
Once the introductions were out of the way, Deuce finally got to ask his question.
“What was your favorite part of the summer?” he asked.
“That’s a good question,” Tatum replied.
Tatum’s answer had nothing to do with basketball. The NBA star said his favorite part of the summer was going on a family trip to Universal Studios in Orlando with Deuce, younger son Dylan, and several of their friends and cousins.
“That was fun,” he said.
It hasn’t all been fun for Tatum, who tore his right Achilles during the 2025 NBA playoffs. Nearly 10 months after undergoing surgery, he returned to the Celtics on March 6, 2026. Tatum scored 15 points and added 12 rebounds and seven assists in Boston’s win over the Dallas Mavericks.
Deuce had a front-row seat to his dad’s recovery and later wrote about what those months were like for their family in a letter published by SLAM.
“When Daddy first got injured, I felt sad,” Deuce wrote. “To try to make him happy, I would give him a hug or tell my brother Dylan to come over and cuddle with him.”
The 8-year-old also admitted there was one upside to having his dad home more often.
“One good thing about the injury that I like is that me and Dylan got to do stuff with him, like lay with him and do fun things with him,” he wrote. “I was happy that I still had someone to play with.”
Tatum shares Deuce with his former girlfriend, Toriah Lachell. He also has son Dylan with singer Ella Mai.
