Mario is celebrating his 40th birthday today with his favorite little man.
The R&B singer took to Instagram on Thursday to share a sweet post about his seven-month-old son, Lord Nasir Barrett.
“Lord is 7 months on my bday! It’s crazy seeing parts of your self in a little infant man,” Mario wrote alongside a black-and-white video of himself holding his baby boy.
The singer, who is currently on the road, admitted that being away from Lord has made him appreciate the time they have together even more.
“I feel like I miss so many little moments being on the road but there is nothing more important than being present when I can,” he shared. “I don’t know the whole playbook on being a dad, but I know I’m going to write my own version. Love yours!”
Mario welcomed Lord, his first child, with girlfriend Esmeralda Rios on January 26.
Since becoming a dad, the “Let Me Love You” singer has been open about how fatherhood has affected him. In March, he shared Lord’s full name while thanking his son for giving him a chance to experience the father-son relationship he missed growing up.
“Thank you for choosing me to be your father, protector, and unconditional loving guiding light!” Mario wrote at the time. “God knew I needed you because every time I hold you I heal a part of myself.”
Fatherhood has also changed the way Mario approaches other areas of his life. In a July interview with ThisIsRnB, he said becoming a dad has made him pay even closer attention to the details around him.
“I’ve always been a detail person, but now, I search for the details even more, and even in conversations with people in rooms that I walk into,” he said.
Before welcoming Lord, Mario had spoken about wanting kids.
“I don’t take having kids lightly,” he said in a 2023 interview. “And I also grew up without a father. So, I want to do it right when I do do it.”
