The Hill family has a new Gator in the house! Lael Hill, the youngest daughter of R&B sensation Tamia and NBA legend Grant Hill, has officially committed to play soccer at the University of Florida.
The 17-year-old rising star shared the exciting news on her Instagram, expressing her gratitude for the opportunity to join the Gators.
“I’m excited, grateful and beyond blessed to announce my verbal commitment to play soccer at the University of Florida!! I’d like to thank my family, teammates & coaches for all their support and encouragement along this amazing journey. I also want to thank Coach Samantha Bohon and her coaching staff for believing in me, and giving me this wonderful opportunity to pursue my dream as a Gator. Go Gators!!”
Tamia and Grant were quick to express their pride on Instagram. “We are so proud of you @reallaelhill! Go GATORS,” Tamia shared in her repost of Lael’s announcement.
Currently still in high school, Lael is following in the athletic footsteps of her father and her older sister, Myla Grace Hill, 22, who has been making waves in the MMA world.
Myla, made an impressive debut in 2021, winning her match with a first-round chokehold. With an undefeated amateur record, she’s poised for a promising career in mixed martial arts.
In a 2012 interview with Black America, Tamia described the contrasting personalities of her daughters. “Myla is very much like Grant,” she shared. “She’s very calm, easy, laid back. Lael is kind of feisty. They do things that remind me of myself, and then they do things that remind me of Grant. It’s funny when your kids mimic you. Even things that I don’t realize that I do they’ll do and I’m like, ‘that’s so me.'”
Lael currently plays for Orlando City’s Elite Club National League (ECNL), which represents the highest level of play for girls in the United States.
