LAURYN HILL AND HER CHILDREN TURNED THE BET AWARDS INTO A FAMILY AFFAIR

Lauryn Hill and her son YG Marley brought the house down at the 2024 BET Awards on Sunday. The pair had the support of their loved ones, including Lauryn’s other kids Selah Marley, Zion Marley, Sara Marley, and Micah Hill, cheering them on in the audience.

Lauryn kicked off her performance with a rendition of “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill,” the title track from her groundbreaking 1998 album.

YG Marley, also known as Joshua, took the stage soon after to perform his latest single “Survival.” The song, featuring contributions from Hill and sampling his grandfather Bob Marley’s 1979 hit “Ambush in the Night,” seamlessly transitioned into his viral sensation, “Praise Jah in the Moonlight.”

The track has become a phenomenon on TikTok, featured in over 2.6 million videos, and YG’s initial post with the song has garnered more than 78 million views.

Performing under the stage name YG Marley, Joshua is carving out his own path in the music industry while honoring the legacies of his mother and grandfather.

In addition to the BET Awards, he has shared the stage with his mom at Coachella and “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” among other prestigious venues.

Lauryn Hill, who welcomed her first child Zion in 1997, penned her debut solo album “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill” during her pregnancy. The album includes the touching track “To Zion,” dedicated to her firstborn.

Since then, Hill’s family has expanded to include six children. Her first five—Zion, 26, Selah, 25, Joshua (YG Marley), 22, John, 21, and Sarah, 16—are shared with her ex-partner Rohan Marley. In 2011, she welcomed her youngest son, Micah, now 12, though she has kept his father’s identity private.
