If you have not heard yet, TLC‘s Doubling Down with the Derricos Deon and Karen Derrico have divorced after almost 20 years of marriage. The Las Vegas-based Derrico family has been on TLC since 2020, sharing their life journey as a family filled with multiples. Their divorce was finalized earlier this month, and according to their settlement, per TMZ, the couple will split custody of their 13 minor children.
In a statement shared with US Weekly, Deon and Karen confirmed their divorce.
“Together, we remain unified in the parenting of our 14 beautiful children — their well-being is our priority,” the reality stars explained. “We thank everyone for their understanding and support as we move forward for the good of our family.”
Per TMZ, Deon will pay $1,166 in child support per month, and Karen will be responsible for paying the children’s medical insurance. Karen also plans to keep the last name Derrico as she didn’t request her maiden restored.
The news of the divorce came as a shock to many of the show’s loyal viewers because as recently as a few years ago, Karen and Deon were both open to having more children. Their youngest children were born in 2019.
“We have not shut the factory down, and I can’t tell you when we will, to be honest,” Deon told Us Weekly in an exclusive interview in February of 2020. “From my perspective, I just have that empty nester fear. I want to always have a child, a baby, in the house with us. That’s how I feel.”
Karen added that she enjoyed being pregnant, even with the risk of multiples. “I enjoy the journey. I enjoy breast-feeding. I enjoy all of that. Although I am high risk and have to go on bedrest, things of that nature, I still enjoy the process.”
The Derrico children include: Darian, 18, Derrick, 13, twins Dallas and Denver, 12, quintuplets Deonee, Daician, Daiten, Deniko and Dariz, 10, twins Diez and Dior, 6, and triplets Dawsyn, De’Aren and Dyver, 4.
