DAVID ALAN GRIER AND DAUGHTER ATTEND THE 2024 OSCARS

David Alan Grier and daughter Luisa Danbi Grier-Kim attended the 96th Annual Academy Awards on March 10, 2024 in Hollywood, California.

Grier, who was the announcer for the evening, looked dapper in a classic black and white suit. However, it was Luisa,15, who stole the spotlight in a striking two-piece ensemble, featuring a captivating combination of black and yellow.

As the father-daughter pair made their way down the red carpet, they caught up with ABC’s George Pennachio for a brief chat. Grier proudly introduced his daughter, affectionately calling her Lulu.

“I brought my beautiful daughter. This is my daughter Lulu,” he said.

While talking talking to the ABC host, Grier shared a humorous anecdote about his daughter’s aspirations to attend the Oscars.

“When Lulu was in grade school, the morning after the Oscars, she said ‘Daddy, I want you to take me to the Oscars next year,’ ” he recalled.

“I said, ‘I’d love to. Now, I need you to get me a script. Get that script produced. It needs to be a good part. Something like where someone died. We’ll both get to the Oscars!’ But [here] we are, belatedly.”

When asked about her excitement for the evening and which celebrities she hoped to meet, Luisa laughed, “I have so many people I want to meet, I don’t think I have one.”

Though Grier lent his voice to the proceedings of the night, he also attended in support of “The Color Purple,” a project close to his heart. The 2023 adaptation of this beloved story featured Grier alongside an ensemble cast, including the likes of Fantasia Barrino, Danielle Brooks, Taraji P. Henson, and many more luminaries, making it a memorable and impactful cinematic experience.
