Tristan Thompson is candidly opening up about one main fear that he has when it comes to his kids. The 32-year-old NBA star said on a recent episode of The Kardashians that he doesn’t want his children to be embarrassed by having him as a father when they learn of all that he has done in his past, including his infidelities.
“It wasn’t until I really had to look at myself. I never had to hold myself accountable. We’re taught, ‘Be the man, do what you please, bros before hoes …’ ” he said on the Hulu hit television series to Khloe Kardashian, the mother of his five-year-old daughter, True and his one-year-old son, Tatum.
“You gotta just be your own man and don’t care what people think and don’t feel like you have to get validation from others.”
Thompson continued opening up to Kardashian as his thoughts turned to his two eldest children, six-year-old Prince Oliver and five-year-old True.
“True is understanding stuff and Prince understands things where they go to school and they have classmates. The last thing I ever want them to do is feel embarrassed that I’m their father,” he said.
Thompson concluded, “I think going down this journey that I’ve been on, especially with losing my mom, I always ask myself, ‘Why do certain things to hurt certain people?'”
One of the things that Thompson did in his past to “hurt” was cheat on Kardashian while they were together. The relationship with Maralee Nichols produced another child for Thompson, Theo, who is the same age as Kardashian’s son Tatum.
In the confessional, Kardashian admits “what happened between Tristan and I was not some small little incident. It was some massive situation that really was a very traumatic experience for me in my life, so I’m not going to forget it.”
The Good American co-founder continued, acknowledging she and Thompson’s journey, “But I’m so proud that I’m able to be kind and mature and show my children that mommy and daddy can coexist and be co-parents. “I’m able to be here for him when he’s in his time of need.”
As mentioned, Thompson shares five-year-old True Thompson and one-year-old Tatum with Khloe Kardashian, in addition to one-year-old Theo with Maralee Nichols. The Los Angeles Lakers player shares his six-year-old son Prince Oliver with Jordan Craig.
