Although we have been referring to Khloe Kardashian‘s son as “Tatum,” his name wasn’t actually official until August 31, 2023.
When Khloé Kardashian, the renowned Good American co-founder, gave birth to her son, she faced a common dilemma that many parents experience: choosing the perfect name. At the time of her son’s birth, she hadn’t finalized a name yet, which led to the temporary placeholder of “Baby Kardashian” on his birth certificate.
As of Thursday, a judge in Los Angeles county granted the name change for the now 13-month-old. It is official, Tatum Thompson is now legally Tatum Thompson instead of “Baby Kardashian”.
Kardashian and ex-partner 32-year-old Tristan Thompson welcomed their son Tatum to the world in July of 2022 via a surrogate. In the beginning, the 39-year-old Good American co-founder was completely honest and open about her guilt surrounding surrogacy.
“But a surrogate process—Kim [Kardashian] knows—is very hard for me. It’s a mindf#@k. It is really the weirdest thing,” Kardashian said to Scott Disick in a conversation on her family reality show, The Kardashians. “[I do feel less connected]. People do say it takes a minute to feel connected but Kim said hers was easy. This is not easy.”
Later on in the episode of the Hulu series, Kardashian said that, she “… definitely buried my head in the sand during that pregnancy that I didn’t digest what was happening. So I think when I went to the hospital that was the first time it really wp-signup.phped. It has nothing to do with the baby.”
The mother-of-two admitted that she was in “a state of shock” from the entire experience, and that bonding with the new baby was not easy.
As time has marched on, we have seen that Kardashian’s bond with Tatum has gotten so much stronger. For his milestone first birthday, the reality star took to social media to wish Tatum the happiest of birthdays, stating that, “God knew my heart needed you.”
“Happy birthday, my sweet son! I am a firm believer in that God gives you what you need and I needed you. God knew my heart needed you. I needed your sweet and precious Smile. I needed your angelic spirit. I needed a love only you could give me. I needed my son.”
She continued her post saying, “I am so proud to be your mommy. So proud of the love and laughter we have in our house. So proud of your beautiful, gentle, loving, infectious spirit. You light up every single room. There’s no denying that Everyone smiles when they look at you! Especially True 🥹 she is so proud to call you hers.”
In addition to Tatum, Kardashian and Thompson also share five-year-old daughter, True Thompson.
