It has been a little over a month since Bronny James, 18-year-old son of NBA legend, LeBron James, suffered a cardiac arrest during a workout with his team at the University of California. Bronny’s coach, Andy Enfield is now speaking out about the freshman athlete’s potential return to the court.

“The good thing is he’s doing extremely well and he’s in class right now. And we all love him,” the USC Trojans head coach told ESPN recently in an interview.

Enfield continued saying, “I think everybody is hopeful that Bronny will return to the court. We just have to be patient and take it step by step Our goal is to support Bronny in any way we can academically, athletically, and be patient with how things develop in his return.”

In the interview, Enfield went on to praise the young athlete’s natural talent on the court.

“He’s a terrific basketball player and was playing very well [before the cardiac arrest],” he said. Enfield continued on to say that, “We all think there is a big upside in his game and he can help our team win.”

The freshman student was hospitalized on July 4th at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and released after three days.

On August 28th, the family released a statement about Bronny’s condition and prospects of returning to the basketball court in the future. The statement also conveyed that after a series of assessments and medical evaluations, Bronny’s condition was likely caused by a congenital heart defect.

“It is an anatomically and functionally significant Congenital Heart Defect which can and will be treated,” the James family said in their statement. “We are very confident in Bronny’s full recovery and return to basketball in the very near future. We will continue to provide updates to media and respectfully reiterate the family’s request for privacy.”

Continued prayers are still pouring in from around the world for this amazing young man. Hopefully, he will be back on the court soon doing exactly what he loves.
