NE-YO OPPOSES GENDER TRANSITIONING FOR KIDS: ‘I’LL NEVER BE OK WITH THAT’

Ne-Yo, whose real name is Shaffer Chimere Smith, is doubling down on recent comments he made concerning gender identity and kids.

In a recent conversation on VladTV with Gloria Velez, the singer expressed his strong stance against parents allowing their children to make life-altering decisions through gender transitions.

“I feel like the parents have almost forgotten what the role of a parent is,” he began. “If your little boy comes up to you and says, ‘Daddy I wanna be a girl,’ you just let him rock with that?”

Ne-Yo added, “Where did he get that? If you let this 5-year-old little boy eat candy all day, he’s gonna do that. Like, when did it become a good idea to let a 5-year-old, a 6-year-old, a 12-year-old make a life-changing decision?

Following pushback from the LGBTQ+ community, Ne-Yo appeared to issue an apology. However, he later addressed the matter through an Instagram video, asserting that the apology had been crafted by his publicist and didn’t genuinely represent his views.

He said, “Listen, I normally don’t give too much of a d— about what y’all think about what I do, what you have to say about what I say, whatever. I normally don’t care because, like I said, opinions ain’t special. Everybody got one. However, this is something I feel very strongly on, and I need y’all to hear it from the horse’s mouth, not the publicist’s computer,” he began.

Ne-Yo, who is a father of seven children, emphasized the importance of waiting until children are mentally mature enough to have discussions about gender identity and transition

He said, “First and foremost, I did not apologize for having an opinion on this matter. I am a 43-year-old heterosexual man raising five boys and two girls, okay? That’s my reality. If my opinion offended somebody, yeah, sure, I apologize for you being offended because that wasn’t my intention. My intention is never to offend anybody.”

“However, I will never be OK with allowing a child to make a decision that is detrimental to their life,” Ne-Yo said. “I will never be OK with that. I definitely plan to educate myself a little bit more on this matter. However, I doubt there’s any book anywhere or any opinion that somebody’s going to tell me that’s going make me OK with letting a child make a decision like that.”

The video was accompanied by text that read,  “My intention is never to offend anybody…but my opinion is MINE and I’m entitled to it. I don’t care what y’all do with yours. That’s YOURS. This is how I FEEL. If one of my 7 kids were to decide that he or she wanted to be something other than what they were born as, once they’re old enough and mature enough to make that decision…so be it. Not gonna love em’ any less. Daddy is still Daddy and he loves you regardless. But this isn’t even a discussion until they are MENTALLY MATURE ENOUGH to have such a discussion.”
