LeBron James was joined by his wife Savannah James, sons Bryce James and Bronny James, and daughter Zhuri James at The 2023 ESPY Awards at Dolby Theatre on July 12, 2023 in Hollywood, California.
During the event, James’ family presented him with the Best Record-Breaking Performance award, recognizing his achievement of surpassing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for the NBA career scoring record in the previous season.
In his speech, the NBA player expressed gratitude to his family, his teammates, mentors, and, of course, the fans.
He also addressed the speculation surrounding his potential retirement after an illustrious 20-year career that has shown no signs of slowing down.
“When the season ended, I said I wasn’t sure if I was going to keep playing, and I know a lot of experts told you, guys, what I said, but I’m here now speaking for myself,” James said. “In that moment, I’m asking myself if I can still play without cheating the game. Can I give everything to the game still? Truth is, I’ve been asking myself this question at the end of the season for a couple years now.”
James went on to share that he will not be retiring soon as his sons’ passion and dedication to basketball fuels him.
“The day I can’t give the game everything on the floor is the day I’ll be done,” James said. “Lucky for you guys, today is not that day.”
“So yeah, I’ve still got something left. A lot left,” James said.
