Da Brat and her wife Jesseca “Judy” Harris-Dupart have welcomed a baby boy! Da Brat gave birth to the couple’s son, True Legend Harris-Dupart, in Atlanta on July 6. He weighed in at 7lbs, 8oz and measured in at 20in long.
“I can’t BELIEVE he came out of me!” the star tells PEOPLE. “Feels like a dream. He’s PERFECT in every way.” As for how mom is feeling: “Very appreciative for such a blessing of our bundle of joy,” she says. “This journey has been more amazing than we could’ve ever imagined.”
Da Brat, who is 49 years old, didn’t think motherhood was in the cards for her.
“I was like, nothing’s gonna come out of me!” Da Brat shared last year.
Harris-Dupart, who is already a mother of three, convinced Brat to try. “We had a little tug-o-war in the beginning… but I felt like she should have the experience,” says Da Brat’s wife. “She is so nurturing.”
Da Brat and her wife, who star on WeTV’s Brat Loves Judy, used IVF to conceive with an egg from Harris-Dupart and sperm from an anonymous white donor.
“We didn’t have a lot to choose from, he definitely wasn’t Black,” Brat previously said of choosing a sperm donor.
Adding, “I think we did a great job with picking. He’s handsome, he’s tall and I think he’s going to look beautiful with my wife’s egg.”
Dupart further explained why they used a white donor, stating, ” …Here’s some things you should know: 1) WE HAD NO IDEA GOING INTO THIS THAT our chances of a black donor would be slim to none 2) that I was a carrier of so many disorders 3) that our window was SOOOO slim and such high risk cus of age and more 4) with my genetic testing I’m the carrier of 4 disorders , that reduced our chances of a black donor down to 1 person and that 1 person had very limited info / portfolio to judge on ….. including BACKGROUND”
