Dwyane Wade continues to be a father first despite the legal challenges he faces. The retired NBA player recently took pictures with his wife, Gabrielle Union, and two of his kids, Zaya and Zaire, at an outing.
Zaya shared the candid on her social media page. “Wades,” captioned the teen. Dozens loved the picture and commented on the love they deemed as evident in the photo.
“Fave fam,” one social media follower declared. “Gorgeous fam,” another of Zaya’s Instagram supporters agreed. “And you’re killing this look, Zaya,” the fan added.
Zaya has the support of her father as she continues to evolve. The teen recently moved to have her name legally changed, which was a motion her birth mother, Siohvaughn Funches, disagreed with. Dwyane addressed his ex-wife’s objection in a social media post last November.
“While I’m on a life-changing trip to our motherland, Africa, I’ve received a social media post about me forcing our 15-year-old child to be someone she’s not and to do something against her will,” Dwyane said in reference to his ex reportedly accusing him of forcing their daughter to change her name.
“No one in our house would ever force Zaya or any of our children to do anything against their will, much less force an identity on them,” Dwyane said of Zaya’s life decisions. “This isn’t a game for my family and definitely not for Zaya,” the celebrity father assured his supporters and critics. “This is her life!”
Siohvaughn filed legal documents with the courts to prevent Zaya from officially changing her name last November. She submitted further information to support her petition, which shed light on the stipulations in Dwyane’s child custody agreement. According to the arrangement, Dwyane has full custody of Zaya and Zaire but “should”’ consult with Siohvaughn regarding health, religious, and educational matters.
The legal fight for Zaya to change her name continues.
