Davido’s son, Ifeanyi, has died. Lagos police confirmed the 3-year-old’s death.
“It is true, the child is dead,” Lagos police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin shared with the press. “About eight people were brought in for questioning and we are investigating the matter,” he continued. “Anyone found culpable in the death of the child would be arrested,” Hundeyin assured.
Ifeanyi was reportedly with family friends when he went underwater in a swimming pool. “The boy was inside water for too long and they pulled him out and rushed him to the hospital,” a source close to the incident shared with the press. Ifeanyi was taken to Evercare Hospital in Lekki where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Davido and his fiancée, Chioma Rowland, traveled to be with family, which is why they left their son in the care of family friends. No explanations were given for how Ifeanyi was able to reach the pool without adult intervention. Family friends could also not explain why the little one was underwater for so long before ultimately being discovered.
Dozens of fans and celebrities took to Instagram to give their condolences to Davido and Chioma upon learning of Ifeanyi’s passing. “Our thoughts are with Davido and the Adeleke family who are mourning.
Davido and Chioma Rowland welcomed their son on October 20, 2019. The Nigerian-American recording artist took to Instagram to announce his son’s arrival shortly after his fiancée gave birth. “What’s up, son,” the recording artist asked his then-newborn. “Grateful the king is here,” Davido told his fans.
Chioma and Davido have yet to make a statement regarding their son’s accident and reported death.
