Madonna celebrated her twins’ birthday earlier this week. The recording artist shared a picture collage of her daughters, Estere and Stella, to honor their special day.
“Happy birthday Estere and Stella Mwale,” Madonna wrote to her daughters. “You both bring so much Love, Laughter, and Light into all of our lives,” she continued. “I cannot believe you’re already 10 years old!”
Madonna adopted Stella and Estere from Malawi five years ago. The twins were living in an orphanage as a result of their mom dying one week after giving birth. Some scrutinized Madonna for adopting Estere and Stella after the twins’ father allegedly accused the singer of tricking him and using her influence as a celebrity to get around the red tape of adoption. Madonna gave an interview in 2017 in which she refuted claims that she was given preferential treatment.
“Because I’m a public figure, people don’t want to be perceived as giving me any kind of special treatment, so I get the hard road,” Madonna told the press. “It’s complicated, but it’s so worth it,” she added.
The scandal that surrounded Estere and Stella’s adoption was nothing new to Madonna. The Pop singer was accused of kidnapping her son, David Banda, whom she adopted from Malawi in 2008.
“Every newspaper said I kidnapped him,” Madonna said of the scrutiny she faced when she brought David home to live with her in London several years ago. “In my mind, I was thinking, ‘Wait a minute. I’m trying to save somebody’s life. Why are you all s—-ing on me right now?’ I did everything by the book,” the singer said. “That was a real low point for me,” Madonna admitted. “I would cry myself to sleep.”
David is Madonna’s youngest son. Estere and Stella made the recording artist a mom for the fifth and sixth time. The twins are Madonna’s youngest children.
