Madonna has been a staple in the music industry for years. The Queen of Pop has heart as big as if not bigger than her library of hits. Recently, the 59-year-old mother shared a heartwarming image of she and her four adopted children at the opening of a children’s hospital in Malawi which is dedicated to her ll-year-old daughter Mercy James.

She captioned of the photo, “Be Sure to Watch @cbssundaymorning This Sunday-Sept 17th!! They Joined me in Malawi for the opening of the Mercy James Pediatric Hospital and We are ready to tell our story!!!”

Mercy James Pediatric Hospital is a 50-bed pediatric facility and important to the “Papa Don’t Preach” hitmaker as she wants to set a good example for her children.

“I want my kids to be loving, decent, compassionate human beings,” Madonna told People Magazine. “I try to set a good example. But it’s been a rollercoaster ride.”

Madonna adopted David Banda in 2006, Mercy James in 2009, and twins Esther and Stella Mwale in 2017 from Malawi, although the process to bring David home was unfortunately not riddled with complications and controversy. In addition to David battling pneumonia and malaria at the time, Madonna was accused of “kidnapping” him from the Home of Hope oprphanage.

“In my mind I was thinking, ‘Wait a minute. I’m trying to save somebody’s life. Why are you all s***ing on me right now?'” she told the magazine. “I did everything by the book. That was a real low point for me. I’ve had some pretty dark moments, but I’m a survivor…I’t complicated but it’s so worth it.”

Madonna is also mother to biological daughter Lourdes Maria Ciccone Leo and 19-year-old son Rocco Ritchie.
