The longstanding awards show excitedly posted on Instagram, sharing the news about Copney’s honor, making sure that viewers save-the-date!

“We are so excited to announce that 14-year-old activist Mari Copeny, also known as @littlemissflint, will be honored as the third annual Billboard Music Awards Changemaker at the #BBMAs.”

We first met Amariyanna “Mari” Copeny in 2016 when, at the age of eight-years-old, she wrote a letter to President Obama, convincing him to come observe Flint Michigan’s water crisis. Nicknamed “Little Miss Flint,” Copeny made it her mission to continually bring awareness to the ongoing water crisis in her community and more.

Since she embarked upon her advocacy mission, Copeny has: raised more than $250,000 for the Flint water crisis and distributing more than one million bottles to residents in need. She has raised more than $600,000 for her Flint Kids projects, giving away over 17,000 book bags filled with school supplies, she proudly works with Eighteen by 18, a youth organization founded by Yara Shahidi, among much much more. However, most recently, she has added a pageant title to her resume by becoming Miss Flint Teen USA 2022.

Copeny has big plans for her future as she is looking to the most prominent job in the land-president. The activist would love to run in 2044 for the job. In a past interview with Popsugar, they asked Copney what did she hope to see change in the country prior to her run for president. Her answer unquestionably was a true reflection of her amazingly heart-filled personality.

“Well, I would hope that by the time I am able to run that our country has fixed this terrible water crisis so many are dealing with coast to coast. I also hope that the hate that runs through this country goes away.”

Congratulations, Mari! We are definitely proud of you. Make sure to tune-in May 15th to cheer on Mari as she receives her prestigious well-deserved award.
