Marques Houston and his wife, Miya, celebrated Memorial 2022 with their daughter, Zara, at Kingdom Hall this past Sunday (Apr. 17). The actor shared pictures from his family’s day of reflection.
“It was unbelievable to be around my brothers and sisters after two years,” Marques exclaimed online. “Jehovah, you’re such an awesome God,” Houston continued. “Being in your house felt like home. Our first Memorial as a family #TheHoustons. Zara enjoyed her first meeting.”
Miya and Marques Houston welcomed their daughter last year. Some fans were surprised to learn of the celebrity couple welcoming a child as they were unaware Marques was married. The Sister, Sister star refrained from sharing the news of him tying the knot with the general public. Marques, however, informed fans that he and Miya tied the matrimonial knot in August 2020.
“I always say being a husband and father are two of my biggest accomplishments in life so I take that very seriously,” Marques told PEOPLE during an interview earlier this year. “I’m really, really happy about being a dad,” the actor added.
“I can’t wait until she gets old enough to where she starts talking and, you know, I can have her on set with me and just kind of take her around,” Houston said of his daughter. “She’s like our little road dog,” the actor continued. “She goes everywhere with us.”
Some criticized Marques’ decision to marry Miya because she is significantly younger than the Sister, Sister star. Miya, however, broke her silence during an interview with Rolling Out last year.
“Both Marques and I share the same religious faith,” Miya said. “We met casually in a group setting through a mutual friend at our annual District Convention of Jehovah’s Witnesses,” she added.
“We definitely didn’t date until I was 18, and when I was 19, we got engaged,” Miya explained. “The internet has my birthday totally wrong,” she continued. “My date of birth is Oct. 7, 2000. We dated less than two years and then we got married.”
Zara is Miya and Marques Houston’s first child.
