Black hair is unquestionably beautiful. However, children don’t always get to see their hair portrayed this way. Academy Award-winning filmmaker Matthew Cherry has teamed up with Dove for some “Hair Love,” ensuring that black children develop and maintain a love for their locks through haircare.
Celebrating the beauty and diversity of Black hair, Dove has created a new product line with an important line from the movie, “I am caring, brilliant, and creative” featured prominently on packaging.
“Introducing… @dove Kids Care Hair Love Collection!

I’m thrilled to be partnering with my friends at Dove to announce the NEW Dove Kids range inspired by my award-winning film Hair Love – the story of a Black dad learning to style his daughter Zuri’s hair for the first time. Every bottle in this collection features a picture of Zuri and a positive affirmation to help boost kids’ self-esteem,” Cherry posted on Instagram.
He continued, “his range was made specially for kids with textured hair. Each caring formula is infused with shea butter and coconut oil for soft, moisturized, and cared-for coils and curls. With hair essentials to cleanse, condition, detangle, and style, looking after hair is easy with a dose of Hair Love.”
Dove helped fund Cherry’s film, Hair Love, in addition to being a generous supporter of the CROWN Act.
“Dove and Matthew have been working in parallel to create a world where natural hair is a source of confidence in young people, and we are thrilled to officially come together to nurture a positive self-image in kids and, at the same time, deliver products that offer the expert nourishment and care of Dove to Black families,” Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Unilever Personal Care in North America, Esi Eggleston Bracey said in a recent statement about the new collaboration.
Cherry’s main character from Hair Love, Zuri, will be featured on each of the new products. The new products are now available at Walmart.
