Blue Ivy Carter has won big at the 2021 Voice Arts Awards. The oldest daughter of Beyonce and Jay-Z garnered the award for “Best Voiceover – Children’s Audiobook” for her work on Matthew A. Cherry’s Hair Love.
Those who have read the children’s book know that Hair Love is all about a father who takes care of his daughter. The book follows the highs and lows of parenthood with hair as the central theme of the story.
“A couple years ago I was coming across a lot of viral videos about African American fathers that were doing their daughters hair,” Matthew A. Cherry said of his highly-acclaimed book in a recent statement. “It really seemed like it was an anomaly, people were really sharing it because they weren’t used to seeing it,” Cherry shared. “I just wanted to normalize it and kind of shine a light cause oftentimes Black men get a bad rap in not being involved in their kids’ lives, and I really wanted to showcase a strong Black family unit and show that dads are present.”
Blue Ivy Carter serves as a voiceover for the audiobook edition of Hair Love. Matthew Cherry was sure to take to social media to congratulate the young talent for receiving her award at the 2021 Voice Arts Awards. “Big congrats to Blue Ivy Carter for best audiobook narration,” Cherry wrote online.
Blue’s grandmother, Tina Lawson, also took to Instagram to congratulate her granddaughter. “Congrats my Blue,” Tina wrote online. “You killed this,” Lawson exclaimed. “It’s only the beginning,” the celebrity mother wrote to her granddaughter. “You are so talented! Grandma is beyond proud!”
Blue Ivy Carter’s latest award adds to the Grammy Award she received earlier this year. Beyonce gave congratulatory regards to her daughter during her acceptance speech for Best R&B Performance at the 2021 Grammy Awards. The recording artist’s win at this year’s ceremony was a history-making moment as Beyonce is now the most awarded and nominated woman artist in Grammy Awards history.
Blue Ivy Carter certainly appears to follow in her parents’ footsteps as an entertainer. She celebrates her tenth birthday next month.
