AL ROKER AND DEBORAH ROBERTS CELEBRATE THEIR SON NICK GETTING INTO COLLEGE

"Go Nick!"

Al Roker and Deborah Roberts are in celebration mode. The couple’s son, Nick, has been accepted to college. Deborah Roberts held back tears on Thursday (Dec. 16) as she shared her son’s accomplishment with The View fans.

“Over his lifetime has been dealing with learning disabilities, developmental disabilities,” Roberts told viewers. “He has accomplished so many things,” the correspondent added. “He has gotten a black belt in Taekwondo. He swam competitively. He tried to train for the marathon, although he changed his mind.”

Nick has served as an inspiration to many as he breaks through barriers to accomplish his goals. It was just a few years ago that the then-teen served as an altar boy at his church, which was a task Nick desired to master. Al Roker discussed the “labels” that attempt to box his son into stereotypes during a 2019 interview.

“[Nick is] somewhere on the (autism) spectrum and maybe obsessive-compulsive,” Al said in an open essay. “But those labels can be frustrating; they don’t begin to describe who Nick really is,” the celebrity father revealed. “‘You must be proud of your son,’ someone will say,” Roker shared with his readers.

“Yes, I am. More than they’ll ever know,'” the celebrity father wrote. “The obstacles in this kid’s way were things that might have tripped up many others. Not Nick, not even with the disabilities he was born with.”

Nick’s acceptance to college is just another example of his determination to beat the odds. “I got his permission to talk about it because that is his private business but he is so excited and we are too,” Deborah Roberts said of Nick’s accomplishment this past Thursday.

Nick received two college acceptance offers in total. The young scholar has not revealed which school he will attend, though he has the support of his parents and a host of social media followers who are also excited about this next stage of his life.
